SPEAKER TOPICS

Occupational Therapy: The Other Therapy

Occupational therapy or OT is often humorously referred to as “the other therapy.” Most medical professionals can’t even explain what occupational therapy is though it is a very valuable service for people who suffer with physical, developmental or mental illness. An occupational therapist is trained to evaluate a person’s physical, cognitive and mental condition and identify if these deficits impair a person’s ability to care for themselves and their family, return to their work or school, and continue with hobbies and leisure activities.

Living With a Chronic Illness

Many people diagnosed with chronic illness suffer with debilitating pain, fatigue and weakness. It can be difficult to work a full time job and keep up with caring for your home and family. Medications may help with symptoms but, there may be side effects that are difficult to live with.  If you suffer with a chronic illness you may benefit from making changes in your life style to make your life easier to live with your condition.

There Is Help for Your Chronic Jaw Pain

I’ve seen hundreds of people over the years in my clinic wanting relief from chronic jaw pain. Some come to therapy specifically for treatment for their TMJ disorder, and some clients come to therapy for treatment of other painful disorders only to find out that I can help them with their chronic jaw pain as well.

Millions of people suffer from chronic headaches, neck pain, and jaw pain and dysfunction. People spend billions of dollars on pain medicine, muscle relaxers and other treatments that attempt to relieve the pain and symptoms of TMJ dysfunction.

Choosing Happiness over Stress

An overabundance of stress seems to be the norm these days. We live stressful, fast-paced lives. In my life, my goal was always to get to a point where I could live stress-free. I believed that once I got there I would live happily ever after. I know now that's not going to happen.

Almost six years ago, my husband passed away unexpectedly and I was left to raise our four sons on my own, continue running our family business and car ing for our home, alone. It was then that I realized that stress was now a way of life and it wasn't going away. So I made a choice. I could be stressed out and miser able or I could be stressed out and happy. I chose to be happy.
